Water Line Re-piping Services in Grand Junction, CO

Your home’s water supply is essentially your family’s lifeline. Without clean, safe water coming into the home, bathing, doing laundry, washing dishes, cooking, and having fresh water to drink are virtually impossible. Residential plumbing can last decades without giving homeowners any trouble. If your family is experiencing certain issues, though, it may be time to schedule re-piping services.

Re-piping can help eliminate many of the common problems families face with their plumbing systems and give them the ready supply of fresh hot and cold water they can depend on. At Home Comfort Services, we’re experts in Water Line Re-piping in Grand Junction, CO. Our team is dedicated to ensuring clients’ plumbing systems serve them well and remain up to code.

WHAT IS RE-PIPING?

Re-piping generally means replacing a home’s pipes running from the main water line to each fixture to provide a steady supply of potable water. In most cases, the connections, hose fixtures, and valves need to be replaced as well. This strategy doesn’t include replacing the home’s drainage and sewer lines or the mainline that runs from the city water supply to the meter or from the meter into the house. If those lines need to be repaired or replaced, we can also help with that project.

For new plumbing installations like these, we usually use PVC or PEX pipes. PVC can last for a century or more and is highly resistant to corrosion. It’s also a safe, leak-proof material that won’t leach harmful byproducts into your water. PEX is a durable, long-lasting material as well. It’s more flexible than other alternatives and isn’t as prone to freezing and bursting as most materials.

HOW LONG DOES RE-PIPING TAKE?

How long the re-piping process takes depends on numerous factors. These include the size of the home, the types of pipes currently in place, and your family’s typical schedule. Projects like these usually take anywhere from a couple of days to a week or more.

Keep in mind, though, your family won’t be out of water for that long. While we put the new piping system in place, we won’t touch the existing one. Our team won’t shut off your water supply until the time comes to actually switch over to the new pipes. This portion of the process can take as long as a day, but we make every effort to transition to the new pipes with as little disruption to your family’s daily routines as possible.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED RE-PIPING?

Residential plumbing systems are designed to withstand repeated use. Even older materials hold up well to wear and tear. However, they don’t last forever. Certain problems can be clear indications that you need new pipes.

You Have an Older Home. Not all materials used in older pipes are the best options for homeowners. Most of them are vulnerable to corrosion and tend to freeze and burst during colder weather. New materials on the market are safer, more efficient, and effective. If your home was built during the 1970s or before and you haven’t had the pipes replaced, re-piping is a good idea.

Discolored Water. When constantly exposed to moisture and all the minerals it contains, metal pipes corrode and rust. Over time, this becomes painfully evident in the water coming out of the pipes. Discolored water could mean you need a new water heater if it only appears when running the hot water. If both your hot and cold water have a red, brown, or yellow tint, you may need re-piping.

Loud Pipes: When you turn on a faucet or the washing machine or dishwasher is running, you shouldn’t hear any noise coming from the pipes other than maybe a faint whooshing sound. If the pipes rattle or sound like they’re trying to escape from the walls, the chances are it’s time for re-piping.

These are the three main signs of the need for home re-piping. You might also notice other issues that could be attributed to old, unsafe, or damaged pipes, such as your water having an odd taste or bad smell. You might have several small leaks or low water pressure as well. In any case, our team is here to get your new pipes installed and improve your plumbing system.
